Foreign Language

FAFP has partnered with Rosetta Stone(r)  to provide foreign languages to our students.  Levels 1-3 will fulfill the high school foreign language credit requirement.  However; freshmen, sophmores and juniors must take language each year.  Early completion of the credit requirement does preclude a student from their annual foreign language requirement.  For example if a student finishes levels 1-3 of Spanish in their freshman and sophmore years they may either, continue on with levels 4 and 5, review levels 1-3, or begin another language of their choice. Any additional levels or languages will appear on the students transcript as electives. Note: not all languages have 5 levels.

Students in junior high will also be taking foreign languages through Rosetta Stone(r) with time set aside during the week for study.  Due to scheduling restrictions, Seniors and grades K-6 will not have access to Rosetta Stone(r) during school, however, any student wishing to take a foreign language on their own time may make a request from the office to do so. Please provide a letter from parent indicating which language is to be studied.

The languages offered by Rosetta Stone(r) are: Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Danish, Dutch, English (American), English (British), Filipino (Tagalog), French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Indonesian, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Pashto, Persian (Farsi), Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish (Latin America), Spanish (Spain), Swahili, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese, Welsh.

Students who are already fluent in a foreign language may not take the same language to meet their foreign language requirment. For students which English is their second language, that would like to improve their English language skills, they may take English with a recommendation from their teacher.

When choosing a course of study in foreign language, students must always consider the impact this decision makes on their college career.  Not all languages may be acceptable by all colleges as the college may not have the ability to further you learning in your chosen language.  While BA degrees normally require foreign language classes at the college level, BS degrees normally do not.
